How to vet, onboard, and set clear expectations with year-end clients, like a CEO.

You've been asking for bank statements since summer. Your client swears the QuickBooks feed has everything. (It doesn't. It disconnected over a year ago.)
So you send one more message. And she writes back:
That was two days ago.
Now it's 9pm, the kids are asking what's for dinner, and you're refreshing your inbox. Again!
“And the spiral starts. Is it me? Did I explain it wrong? Am I the problem? Is she going to leave? Is she going to ask for her money back? Maybe I should just stay up and piece it together myself so she's not upset...
(Spoiler: she's probably fine. She might be having cocktails on a beach in Mexico. 🙃)

For years, I let clients set the rules in my firm.
Want to text me at 8pm? Sure. Call my cell on a Saturday? Of course. Skip the portal and come straight to me? Absolutely. We were local, so some clients even stopped by my HOUSE to drop off paperwork. 😳
Want to do your own categorization and have me handle reconciliations? No problem! I wanted to be helpful. I wanted them to like me. I wanted them to stay.
But month after month, those same clients handed me back a mess that took longer to fix than if I'd just done it myself. My phone never stopped buzzing. I was working more, earning less, and quietly resenting the people I was trying so hard to please.
So I started changing the rules. One channel. Set hours. "We don't offer that service anymore."
Nobody yelled. Nobody stormed off. And my business got SO much calmer.
That's when it clicked. My clients weren't the problem. I wasn't the problem either. My onboarding was.
So here's what I want you to hear before year-end catch-up season hits:
And onboarding is something you can fix, in a few weeks, before January. That's exactly what we're walking through together, live.
60 minutes. Three fixes. A plan you can put in place before January.
FIX #1
The intake questions that uncover what your client is really struggling with, so you know who's a fit before the discovery call even starts.
FIX #2
What clients owe you, when they owe it, and what happens when they don't. Plus what they get from you, so nobody's texting you at 9pm (or stopping by your house 😉).
FIX #3
How to systemize onboarding so every new client gets the same smooth experience. Including a peek at how I run the diagnostic review and client portal inside Double.*
👀 Plus: the two pieces most bookkeepers completely miss when they fix their onboarding. I'm saving those for the live session.
Are you about to say yes to year-end catch-up clients (and already dreading the document chase)?
Does your intake form ask about the bookkeeping, but never about what's really keeping your client up at night?
Do clients text you, call you, and email you whenever they feel like it?
Have you never actually written down due dates, response windows, or what happens when they're missed?
Does every new client feel like starting from scratch?
The exact tools I use to onboard clients the right way. They go out during the live training only.
The questions I ask up front to find out what a client is really struggling with, so I know if they're a fit before we ever get on a call.
How I set expectations from day one, so clients know what they owe me, when they owe it, and exactly how to reach us.
Live attendees only, so grab your seat & put it on your calendar.
better boundaries for one firm, after moving every client off texting and onto a client portal
cleanup signed by one bookkeeper, set to become a monthly retainer, because she scoped & priced it right from the start
clients for one Bestie Club member, now making MORE money with way less stress
“I'm not starting a service until you've signed our engagement and I've been paid, period.— A bookkeeper who rebuilt her onboarding & stopped doing free work before contracts were signed

Onboarding feels SO personal when you're the one sending the fifth reminder email at 9pm. But I promise you, you are not the only one.
Come hang out with women who get it. Ask your questions live, steal my templates, and walk away with a plan you can put in place before January.
Because you didn't start a bookkeeping firm to spend your nights chasing paperwork.
